Healthy + Easy Kids’ Snacks

Between work, family/social commitments, getting kids back into a routine, homework assignments and extracurricular activities, fall can be an incredibly hectic time of year. Many parents are left time-starved and feel drained at the thought of packing lunches and preparing after school snacks. It can also be challenging to find inspiration for healthy snacks that kids actually want to eat. Continue reading

Gluten Free Fruit Pizza

I’ve always had a weak spot for pancakes, waffles and pastries. As a result, enjoying breakfast seemed to be particularly tough after going  gluten free. As I began to learn more about how high-sugar breakfasts contribute to overeating, mood swings, blood sugar imbalances and hormone fluctuations though, I quickly began to see the benefit in embracing healthier options.

While these days I usually opt for breakfast dishes that include lots of greens and healthy fats, I must admit I love to indulge in a good breakfast ‘treat’ from time to time.  Continue reading

The Big Mak Salad

One of the things I love about the internet is the access it provides to healthy variations of almost any recipe. A quick search online and chances are someone out in cyberspace has come up with a healthier alternative to your favourite chocolate bar, cookie or fast food burger. Or, maybe your body is now calling out for more refreshing, lighter fare. Either way, the transition into spring can be the perfect time to hit the reset button and provide the body with a little extra love. Just like we focus on spring cleaning for our homes, our bodies can use a little spring cleanup too. Continue reading

Cleansing Berry-Green Smoothie

For many people,  murky-looking concoctions resembling swamp water are what first come to mind when envisioning a ‘green’ smoothie. While I’ll be the first to admit that Krishn and I can be a bit hardcore with our smoothies and enjoy green combos that can send others running, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, a ‘green’ smoothie doesn’t need to actually look green at all.

If you’ve been wanting to incorporate more greens into your breakfast but just can’t wrap your head around gulping back a green drink in the morning, than this smoothie is for you. There are so many options for flavouring smoothies to your liking and while these nutrient-dense beverages shouldn’t typically contain a lot of fruit, you can absolutely use fruits that are lower in sugar to offset the bitterness of the greens and ‘hide’ the fact that they’re even in there.
